Lady Gouldian Finches

In our opinion, the Lady Gouldian Finch is one of the most beautiful birds in the world. In aviculture they are considered one of the most challenging birds to successfully breed.  They make wonderful pets with a personality that says to its owner, "Yeah I am beautiful sitting here, do you see all my colors? Nothing is quite like seeing a Male Gouldian courting his mate. Singing his heart out and jumping up and down on the perch. Our experience with the Lady Gouldian Finches has been very enlightening, rewarding and full of surprises. We hope your experience with them are just as fulfilling.

Gouldian Finches in the wild they have three head color mutations: red, black and orange (yellow) as well as one wild type back color, green.  Gouldians in aviculture have many more mutations and that is what makes them so captivating and entertaining to breed. Each clutch is like a box of chocolates, you never really know what your going to get.

Below are some examples of the pairs of Gouldians we breed.

A few of our 2nd Generation Breeders

One of our babies - This hen is part of our 2nd generation breeding stock. She is a Black Headed (Orange Tip Beak) / Purple Breasted Split to White Breast / Yellow Back Split to Blue.  We think she is a beauty.

Another baby of ours. His name is Wren. He is a Yellew Headed / White Breasted / Normal Back Split to Blue.

Isn't she a pretty baby. A Charcoal Headed / Purple Breasted Split to White Breast / Blue Back hen. She is a BIG girl and we have very high hopes for her.

We think he is stunning. This cock is a Red Headed / White Breasted / Silver. We can't get enough of this bird. Just an exemplary example of a Silver Gouldian. Pictures just don't do him justice.

How do you like me now!! This is Jezzebelle a Orange Headed Purple Breasted Normal. She is part of our second generation breeding pairs and is paired with the big silver above her picture.

My name is Tigger. I am a Red Headed Purple Breasted Normal and I am paired with a Red Headed Purple Breasted Split to White Breast Normal.

Ned -  Cock is Red Head / White Breast/Dominant Pied Yellow Back.   Interesting, paired with Kelly - a Normal Hen produces predominantly Pied Yellow chicks. Excellent parents. They sit and feed. Clutch size is 4 babies per clutch everytime. Very hearty. They have never tossed a baby.

Cassanova - Cock is Red Head split to Black Head/Purple Breast split to White Breast/Pastel. Paired with Cleopatra, a Black Headed/White Breasted Normal Back split to Blue Hen. This pair produces very healthy Blue Back, Pastels and Normals Split to Blue. Excellent parents. Clutch size is 4 to 7. They sit and feed. This pair has never tossed a baby.

King George - Cock is Orange Headed Split to Black Head/Purple Breast split to White Breast/Blue Back. A very hearty Blue Gouldian. Paired with Angel - a Black Headed / White Breasted / Silver Back Hen they produce very hearty Blues and Silvers. The hen is from Oregon and the Cock is from here in Virginia. We were hesitant to put these two together but we are so glad we did because of their genetic diversity, they are producing absolutely stunning birds. They are superb parents. They sit and feed with clutch sizes varying from 3 to 6. This pair has never tossed a baby.

Saber - Cock is a Black Headed / White Breasted / Silver Back.  He has the longest tail we have ever seen on a male Gouldian.  A stunning example of what a male Gouldian should look like. A beautiful bird that perches perfectly. Paired with Barbara  - a Black Headed split to Orange Head / Purple Breast split to White Breast / Blue Back Hen. The birds came from different sides of the country but I was still hesitant in putting them together. They produce very healthy, large Silver backs. Every baby this pair has produced has been Silver.  They have produced two clutches so far, each with 5 babies. They have not tossed a single baby and are super parents.

We have other pairs that produce however for our first generation birds these are some of the top producing most consistent pairs that have the best characteristics of what should be in a Gouldian finch breeder bird. They don't toss babies, they are good nest builders and they consistently have large fertile clutches. Check back later, we just set up a second generation pair and we look forward to updating you on how the Wren pair does. He is an Orange headed / White Breasted / Green Back Split to Blue (one of my first babies ever) that I paired with a Cassanova baby - Black Headed / Purple Breasted Split to White / Blue Back Hen. The Gouldian adventure continues.......
